What is a barbell club? 

A barbell club is a group of individuals who would like to train and possibly compete in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Competing is optional and all are welcome to train with and be part of the team. 

What are the benefits of Olympic weightlifting?

Olympic weightlifting has no equal for developing speed, flexibility and coordinated, total-body strength and muscle.

What is Olympic weightlifting?

Olympic weightlifting consists of two types of lifts: the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Both are overhead lifts and involve a full body range of motion. The goal is to lift maximum weight at a rapid speed using a barbell.

How often do you train?

Our athletes train anywhere from 3-5 days depending on their individual goals. 

What is the programming like?

The programming is a 3-5 day a week program that progresses through a full training cycle. You will start with a base phase and slowly work your technique and strength to a max loading phase.

Are you a sanctioned barbell club?

Westerly Barbell is a sanctioned barbell club through USA Weightlifting, the only governing body in the USA. This means all coaches are background checked and trained in safe sport to keep athletes of all ages protected.

What is the equipment and gym set up?

Our gym is fully equipped with all things needed for top and amateur athletes. This includes upgraded bars with bearings compared to most gyms bushing bars. Jerk blocks, Kilo plates, and 7 practice platforms for out athletes to get the best possible training environment.

We have cultivated an environment that is more like family than a gym. Westerly Barbell is a dedicated strength program specifically designed to make you better at the Olympic lifts (snatch and clean and jerk). We also do accessory work like squats, presses and many others to help make you a well rounded athlete. The programming is designed to enhance speed, balance , coordination, full range of motion, flexibility, strength and confidence. The programming is designed for Olympic weightlifters. If you are looking to get better at this sport you will need programming designed to do just that. Coaching is also very important. Our coaches are dedicated to making this sport better in every way. Our coaches are highly trained and decorated athletes. 

Who is the coach?

The coach is Jared Coon. Jared is a decorated national and international master athlete. Below are some of his accomplishments and coaching credentials.
